July 10th: We ferried across to Powell River and set up camp in the Willingdon Beach campground, right in Powell River. There is a cool beachside trail that commemorates all the forestry work done in the area. It was super neat.
July 11th: We drove up a FSR to hike up the Tin Hat portion of the Sunshine Coast Trail. The views were amazing. We were happy.
On our way down the mountain, we pulled into the Lewis Lake Rec Site. The lake was a treat to jump into. I lacked all grace while crawling out – a skill I can work on this summer!
July 12th: We met up with Brent and Jacqueline and their visiting family. The day started out with a visit to the beach at low tide. There were so many sand dollars! I had never seen a live one before! Later, we went to Rainy Day Lake and splashed around – there was lots of jumping in and being pushed in.
July 13th: Brent and Jacqueline took us out into Desolation Sound. It was a bumpy ride all the way to Cassel Lake. I may have laughed somewhat hysterically, unsure of what is normal for boats. It was fun nonetheless!
On our way back, we stopped in Refuge Cove for Nachos on the deck. (They were pretty decent – mostly due to the location).
July 14th: The 23rd annual Powell River Logger Sports! It was super cool to see. What made it just that much cooler was our rides into town. There was a car show as well which means free parking for those that enter….so Les rode with Brent in his grandpa’s old GMC truck and I rode with Jacqueline in his dad’s old Mustang. (I don’t know cars so who knows how old…50s? 60s?) Somehow we neglected to take any pictures. Oopsies.
After sweating in the sun like a bunch of loggers (ha!), we headed out to a sweet swimming hole in a nearby creek.
Powell River is so much fun! Or more accurately, Brent and Jacqueline are so much fun!
